Destiny Udogie, who scored his debut goal with an assist from Son Heung-min, has extended his stay at Tottenham Hotspur.
“We are delighted to announce that Destiny Udogie has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2030,” Tottenham announced on the club’s website on Wednesday. Udogie joined Spurs last year on a free transfer. He spent the first season on loan at Udinese before joining permanently this season. Signing a long-term deal for a player born in 2002, who was still under contract, is a sign of the expectations Spurs have for him.랭크카지노
Even before the official announcement, there was talk. European transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said on 12 December: “Udogie and Tottenham have already agreed and signed a contract. The basic contract is valid until June 2029, with an option for a one-year extension.” If the extension option is exercised, they will be together until June 2030. On the 11th, Romano added: “Tottenham are very happy with Udogie and have agreed a salary increase. In addition, a long-term contract has been agreed. A club source has confirmed that a deal has been reached.”
Udogie, who grew up playing for Elas Verona and then Udinese, has been classed as a first-team regular since arriving at Spurs. He has emerged as the first-choice left-back ahead of the likes of Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguillon. Coach Enze Postecoglou has put his trust in Udogie. He is rated as the best left-back in the Premier League (PL).
Postecoglou used Udogie as an inverted full-back, where he was at his best. He showed off his mobility as he moved between left and centre. When he switched to the left, the Tottenham attack came alive. Udogie could have done better with Micky van der Penn at the back.
Son Heung-min helped him settle in. “Bissouma, Pape Mattharsar, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic helped me settle in,” he told The Athletic. They told me how Tottenham works, how to behave and play, so it was easy to adapt. I also spoke to Son Heung-min. He said, ‘You’re young, focus and train every game.’ The atmosphere in the group is very good. I love this Tottenham,” he said afterwards.
He also singled out Son Heung-min as the player who impressed him the most. “I couldn’t take the ball away from Yves Bissouma, he’s so confident, and his quality and passing when he’s going up the pitch is amazing. He made a huge impression. Son Heung-min is great too. He’s really good as a finisher.”
Udogie recently scored his debut goal for Tottenham. He scored his first goal in a Tottenham shirt against Newcastle United, converting a pass from Son Heung-min into the net. The goal proved to be a game-winner for Spurs, as they went on to beat Newcastle 4-1, with a brace from Heung-Min Son and a hat-trick from Christian Benteke. The win was a welcome boost for Spurs, who had been in the midst of their worst run of form with one draw and four defeats.
The same goes for Udogie. Udogie’s fine start to the season took a hit when he was sent off for a straight red card against Chelsea, and there were disappointing moments in subsequent games, including a crucial missed backpass. It could have been a bad time for the youngster, but he turned things around with his debut goal, assisted by Son Heung-min. Add to that the fact that he signed a new contract, and you have a real confidence boost.
Going forward, Tottenham will continue to use Udogie as their first-choice left-back. Udogie also made his debut for the Italian national team, further increasing his value. Udogie’s progression is exciting as he continues to improve his game and gain confidence in the face of adversity.
